Stuart Hameroff is Professor Emeritus, Departments of Anesthesiology and Psychology and Director of the Center for Consciousness Studies, at the University of Arizona, Tucson. Following an interest in the computational capacity of microtubules inside neurons, Stuart teamed up with the eminent British physicist Sir Roger Penrose in the early 1990s to develop a highly controversial theory of consciousness called orchestrated objective reduction (Orch. OR). In 1994, he began the Toward a Science of Consciousness conference as Director of CCS. He has lectured around the world and organized many international conferences. Stuart was featured in the film What the Bleep Do We Know!? as well as numerous BBC, PBS, and Discovery, Learning and History Channel TV documentaries related to consciousness and the possibilities for a scientific basis for spirituality. Stuart is co-creator of the animated feature Mindville with Nick Day, currently in development.
